Essential Summer Sports Rundown

Summer is just around the corner meaning that some sports are coming to their season’s end. That said, some like tennis are only just beginning. But just because a professional sport is on its off season doesn’t mean the weather isn’t perfect to play at an amateur level. Here’s a rundown of sports that are ideal pursuits for fitness and entertainment. 

SWIMMING 

Wherever you are in the world your summer won’t be complete with some swimming. You can swim competitively in events like triathlons or time trials, alternatively you can go for a leisurely plunge in the afternoon heat. Choose between a pool, the ocean, or wild swimming in a lake. 

Swimming is an excellent full body workout whichever medium you choose. There is very little strain on your joints meaning your muscles can gently flex and develop without any strenuous effort. If you choose to wild swim don’t forget your Ladies wetsuits.

TENNIS 

Although you can play tennis any time it’s much better in the summer on an outdoor court. That is why all the major tournaments take place at the height of summer. At this time of year the courts are hard and the rain is far away. 

This Summer find a court nearby and convince a friend to come along for a rally or some competitive play. In a short time you will realize how intense the workout is. Tennis is an excellent cardio workout and great for building strength. 

STREET HOCKEY 

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to give up hockey. The game is mostly played on ice with skates and helmets, but in the summer months you can still get your kicks with Street hockey, sometimes known as ground hockey. 

Street hockey still uses sticks and pucks but it’s played on the ground. The goal is usually larger and some of the rules are slightly different. It is also a different kind of work out, more akin to basketball or soccer; still, it’s a fun and effective fitness pursuit. 

DANCING 

If you’re wondering why dancing is on a list of summer sports it’s because it qualifies. Breakdancing will soon be an Olympic sport and may other types of dancing also qualify. As well as being entertaining and team oriented, it’s also an excellent full body workout. 

Summer is the perfect time to start dancing and get fit. If you don’t know where to start look only for some beginners videos, then look in your local area for some groups and like minded people. Since the weather is good you should find an outdoor practice school.  

5 ASIDE SOCCER 

The professional soccer season might be over but for amateurs it has just begun. 5 aside soccer makes the ideal sport for the summer, it’s fun, an excellent workout, and community oriented. If you join a 5 aside soccer league this summer you will make friends for life. 

You don’t have to be Ronaldo or Messi to play 5 aside soccer either. Even if you don’t think you have much soccer talent you can apply what you do know to good effect on the smaller park. Keep this up and by the end of the summer your fitness levels will be soaring.
