Baseball is back with the start of Spring Training, and so are Nick and Pat in the newest episode of the Shoeless Goat Podcast! To open up Season 3 of the show, the guys review the offseason for both teams in town, the Cubs and the White Sox.
After eventful offseasons for both clubs, it seems as though the tables have turned in Chicago, with the White Sox gaining the upper hand for the first time in years, bolstering a strong 2020 team with the addition of Liam Hendriks and Lance Lynn. Despite this, Pat wonders whether the decision to fire Ricky Renteria for Tony La Russa may have been a risk not worth taking. Hard to believe when it comes to a Hall of Famer baseball person.
On a similar token, Nick is here to discuss the continued changes away from the 2016 World Series roster, with Jon Lester, Kyle Schwarber, and Albert Almora leaving the North Side, while Cub legend Jake Arrieta returns after three years away to help usher in the next era of young Cubs pitchers. In perhaps the biggest Cubs move of the winter, Nick gives his thoughts on the Yu Darvish trade, and how little sense that deal makes. Plus, is Joc Pederson the answer in right field?
Both give their bold predictions for the 2021 season, with Nick seeing the Cubs making a playoff run and Pat predicting Dylan Cease to make the 2021 All Star team. Finally, the MLB Top 100 player rankings are discussed, with plenty of complaints and objections. Will Smith at 50? Clayton Kershaw at 37? Willson Contreras at 81? Freddie Freeman at 4, 27 spots in front of Jose Abreu? Find out here who was undeserving of those spots, and how our team would shuffle some of those spots around.
All of that, and more, on the return of the Shoeless Goat Podcast!
