Alright, we know there is a lot of confusing on who can make the playoffs and what it will take to get the 8th or 9th seed in the NBA Western conference. Luckily, we were confused too and had to do some serious research, thankfully we found someone on twitter that labels himself a ‘Proud Hoops Nerd,’ @BraydenBallin. He broke down the scenarios for us and these are how they go.
All scenarios for the Trail Blazers, Grizzlies, Suns, & Spurs routes to the playoffs…

THURSDAY
Grizzlies Vs Bucks (4:00 EST)
Suns Vs Mavericks (4:00 EST/TNT)
Spurs Vs Jazz (4:00 EST/TNT)

Memphis Grizzlies:
– Win + POR loss = 8th
– Win + POR win = 9th
– Loss + PHX & SA loss = 9th

San Antonio Spurs:
– Win + POR, MEM, & PHX loss = 8th
– Win + 1 of POR, MEM, or PHX win = 9th

So as you can see, all four teams, the San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and Portland Trail Blazers all have their ways to get the 8th or 9th seed. Portland is the only team that is almost exactly in, but it would take a loss and wins from 2/3 of the remaining teams to fall out. So Portland is likely in playing the Nets unless they collapse.
