Real Madrid vs Athletic Club: Player Ratings

Real Madrid earned another victory to make it 7 wins out of 7 since La Liga resumed.  Madrid and Athletic Club played a tight affair, but Madrid again proved they can win ugly.  Ultimately, they earned the 3 points and remain on top of Barcelona with a 4 point advantage.  4 matches remain this season.  Although Madrid keep winning, they are not doing it in the prettiest fashion.  They are relying on their defense, which posted its 4th clean sheet in a row, and their deep bench.  the 5 subs is a huge advantage for a club like Madrid, and it shows, as they have won multiple tight games in the last 30 minutes with their subs.  Madrid look to continue their form and edge closer to league glory with a match against Alaves on Friday,.

GK: Thibaut Courtois  – 7

Best goal keeper in Spain, and perhaps the world.  His confidence is at an all time high and it is great to see.

LB: Marcelo– 7

Provided a number of misplaced passes, but played well defensively. Still a fantastic player, but clearly the number 2 choice right now.  Will be an interesting off season.

CB: Eder Militao – 7

Made a few important tackles.  One of his better games for Madrid.

CB: Sergio Ramos – 7

Seems to be at his peak right now.  Rarely plays a situation wrong.  Scored another penalty, of which he has scored 22 straight without missing.  A true legend of the club.

RB: Dani Carvajal – 7

Played a great game.  Energy and work rate was high as always.  Not as many effective crosses this game.  Hopefully he is not injured from the horror tackle on his ankle.

MF: Casemiro – 8

Huge game from the Brazilian.  Truly indispensable.  Was all over the field.

MF: Luka Modric – 8 (MOTM)

World class performance.  Cheeky passes and moves all over the field.  It seemed like he was just toying with the opposing players.  Amazing to watch him pull the strings, push the team forward, and display his skills.  Hoping he stays around for as long as possible.

MF: Federico Valverde– 6

Still not at his effective best pushing the ball forward.  Clearly still a talent that is wise past his years.  I like the faith that Zidane continues to show in Fede.

FW: Rodrygo – 5

Not sure what the hype is with this player.  I have just not seen him prove himself yet, unlike Vinicius who has started to show value.  He does not insert himself into the game at all.  He does show pace, but there are plenty of players with pace.  Hopefully he continues to grow in skill and confidence if Zidane keeps giving him minutes.

FW: Marco Asensio – 7.5

Fantastic display from the Spaniard.  Already playing very well with multiple dangerous crosses into the box that could have been goals.  Also had a free kick attempt that threatened the goalie.  He is a scary player to opposing defenses, and will only continue to improve as he returns form injury.  IN my opinion, deserves a starting spot within the top xi right now.

FW: Karim Benzema – 6.5

Another quiet night from Benzema, although he continues to show his importance to the team.  His movement, his awareness, his passing, and intelligence are indispensable.  There is a reason he starts every single game.  He adds much more to the team than goals and assists.

Subs

Lucas Vasquez – 6.5

Toni Kroos– n/r

Luka Jovic – 3

Vinicius Jr. – n /r
