A Chelsea fan has been arrested for allegedly racially abusing Son Heung-Min during Sunday’s fiery London derby at Tottenham. Son was not aware of the incident, but it was reported to authorities by Chelsea fans in the stands who heard the alleged abuse. The Tottenham winger was sent off by VAR in the second half of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat after kicking out at Antonio Rudiger in retaliation to being fouled.
Source: Rudiger appeared to indicate that he was being subjected to monkey chants moments after the incident, which was reported to the referee, and prompted the first of three announcements over the public address system in line with the recently-introduced Premier League protocol. Six arrests have been made by police, but only one has been for alleged racial abuse which was aimed at Tottenham player Son. It, however, remains unclear if the Chelsea supporter has been charged by police.
Meanwhile, Rudiger has urged Tottenham officials to find and punish the fans who allegedly made monkey noises on Sunday. Rudiger, 26, who is German, tweeted on Sunday evening: ‘It is really sad to see racism again at a football match, but I think it’s very important to talk about it in public.
