The Year: 2008
Well this one is interesting for a variety of reasons. For one, crashing a car doesn’t seem like anything I’d ever be willing to do but I guess for a professional driver like Nelson Piquet he knew how to do it right.
During the 2008 F1 Singapore Grand Prix Nelson Piquet car smashed into the wall. Which is something happens in the sport of Formula 1 racing.
A year later Piquet revealed he had been ordered to crash so his Renault teammate, Fernando Alonso, could win. The team was charged with conspiracy and later suspended from F1.
A pretty scary scene to imagine. Crashing a car at high velocity on purpose. And looking at the photos this is an absolute scary scene and it’s hard to imagine doing this on purpose.
Many still argue whether it’s on purpose or the allegations are false.
It’s quite difficult to think somebody would crash a car because he was told to. Very realistically speaking, I think it’s easier to crash a Formula One car than drive a Formula One car. That’s a fair point because of the amount of power and everything. It’s very easy to crash the car.”
